5 Unskippable Places to Eat in Tulum’s Town

When going to Tulum, you might not wander into the town at all. I know I was very hesitant to stray from the beach the first few days but by the end of the trip I was baffled that I almost wanted to miss the town entirely! There is so much to eat there and so much shopping to do (that’s much cheaper than shopping in the beach area).

Below are my top five places to eat in Tulum’s town that you just can’t miss.

5. Prieto

Prieto was one of my favorite places to grab coffee or breakfast from. If you are an early riser like me, the town is VERY quiet in the morning. You can have your coffee on the sidewalk and take in the beautiful and unique sites that Tulum has to offer.

4. Matcha Mama

There are many Matcha Mama’s all around Tulum, we found two in the beach area as well but they can get pretty crowded depending on when you are in Tulum. Since many people don’t really venture into the town, the matcha mama here doesn’t have much of a line.
We were able to walk right up and order without waiting!
Matcha Mama of course has a ton of matcha but is also a fantastic place to grab an acai bowl or a healthy drink to start your day or pick you up around lunch.

3. El Grifo

sourced from google reviews

This is more of a nightlife sort of place with some of the best drinks I have ever tasted. I am not much of a drinker and tend to be mostly sober throughout the year because most drinks just don’t taste good to me or have way too much sugar- these I couldn’t get enough of. The Mezcal they use is some of the best flavor you’ll ever taste in Tulum.
Or even in the world.
Being here was one of my favorite nights in Tulum.
We were able to sit out on the street and have our server come to us instead of pushing our way to the bar like most places. It was calm, had good music, and wasn’t too crowded. We even got a local come up to the restaurant and they lowered the music for him to sing – truly a great vibe.

2. Burrito Amor

Burrito Amor sits towards the end of the strip and has quite the reputation for drawing tourists that don’t want to go to the town.
It’s for good reason!
Their food feels so fresh with each bite and they have raw juice shots there that taste amazing. I had their brain shot and loved the taste which you can’t always say for health shots. If not for the food, coming for the shots alone is worth it.

1. Taqueria Honorio

You know a place isn’t just for tourism when there is a line around the block within an hour of opening filled with locals. We had to go right when they opened just to get a seat. Let me tell you, it was worth it, Even if I had to eat tacos for breakfast.
I believe everyone should stop in during their trip to Tulum and really experience this place and it’s amazing food.
